Dr Karanka's Print Stravaganza at London Photomonth 9th Oct – 1st Nov 09

An upcoming gallery exhibition is to feature work by some members of Statement Images.

In October, the itinerant photography show Dr Karanka’s Print Stravaganza will be exhibited in London Photomonth. The Stravaganza started as an open call for photographers who wanted to show in a number of self organized exhibitions in different countries. Hundreds of photographs sent from all over the world, and previously displayed in Italy and France will be shown at The Others from the 9th of October till the 9th of November.

The first exhibition of Dr Karanka’s Print Stravaganza was organized by Joni Karanka at the New Park Liberal Club in Cardiff. After a few weeks of an open call for organizing a local show, more than sixty photographers had submitted their prints to be displayed without expecting any renumeration. After the success of the original show, the photographs started a trip that would take them to XM24 in Bologna (Italy), Arles (France), Gliwice (Poland) and now London. On the way, new photographers have added their work to the show that keeps growing in new and unexpected directions. The variety of the exhibition spaces used and the involvement of local organizers for each show gives Dr Karanka’s Print Stravaganza a unique DIY aspect, bringing photography directly from the artists to the viewers at minimal cost.

The current exhibition at The Others will be the largest Stravaganza to this date and is part of Photomonth: East London Photography festival 2009, and will include not only photographs, but slideshows and music. The Others is located at:
